Synonymy: 1932, Discocyclina speighti, Rec. Canterbury [N.Z.] Mus. 3: 485, pl. 61, fig. 1c, 4b; pl. 62, fig. 6b;

1946, Asterocyclina speighti Finlay, Trans. Roy. Soc. N.Z. 76(2): 237-242.

Description: Usually star-shaped with arms radiating from a central umbonal area; surface covered in raised pustules.

Distribution: Waipawan to Mangaorapan or Heretaungan, Bartonian?. Cole (1962, 1967) reviewed Asterocyclina including A. speighti in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands, and described a new species A. hornibrooki from the Totara Limestone (Runangan) at Fortification Hill near Oamaru. Subsequent revision of Chatham Islands biostratigraphy has shown A. speighti to be present and locally abundant only in the Matanginui Limestone (Waipawan) except for an occurrence (worn, reworked? individuals) in the upper part of the limestone (Bortonian) at Moreroa.

Comment: Maxwell (1968) records Discocyclina?, lacking stellate arms, from algal beds in mudstone of Runangan age, at Cape Foulwind.
