Description: Usually small, rather flattened, gently biconvex, distinguished particularly by the strongly recurved sutures on the dorsal side with intersutural ribs characteristically not connecting with anterior suture and a distinct ventral umbilicus.
Distribution: Waipipian to Recent. Shallow water facies.
Comment: Replaced in Waipipian to Nukumaruan deeper water facies by an undescribed smaller, smoother species resembling N. decurrens Chapman, also with short intersutural ribs but with a more tightly coiled test. Collen (1972) regarded N. finlayi as a descendant of N. hurupiensis and used it as a zonal species for post Opoitian strata in Wanganui Basin.
