Synonymy: 1939, loc. cit. p. 319, pl. 27, fig. 101, 102.
Description: Distinguished by its extremely compressed and flattened, test with wide lateral carinae.
Distribution: Upper Tongaporutuan to Opoitian. B. compressa is a deep water species, usually absent in the Kapitean but present in the Opoitian (Mangapoike River and Mangaopari Mudstone).
Comment: Scott (1978) derives this species from B. quadrilatera. A very similar, smaller, form, often with faint costae, in the Wanganui Series (Opoitian to Nukumaruan) is illustrated in Fig. 38 as B. cf. compressa from the Nukumaruan of Tangoio, Hawkes Bay. It also has similarities to compressed individuals in populations of B. finlayi.
