Anomalinoides sphericus (Finlay)

Hornibrook et al. 1989, Fig. 22.22: 0.37 mm
.

Reference: Hornibrook, Brazier & Strong 1989, p.85, Fig. 22:22.

Synonymy: 1940, Trans. Roy. Soc. N.Z. 69(4): 460, pl. 66, fig. 166-171 (Anomalina).

Description: Distinguished by the smooth, strongly inflated trochospiral test with a domed dorsal surface and a distinct umbilicus on the ventral side.

Comparison: Resembles Rotaliatina but lacks true apertural plates.

Distribution: Lillburnian, rare, Waiauan to Recent.

Comment: Probably derived from A. pinguiglabra (Finlay) in the upper Southland Series. Vella separated a flat-topped form from Cook Strait as a southern subspecies frigindex (1957, N.Z. Geol. Surv. paleont. bull. 28: 37, pl. 9, fig. 183, 184).
