Description: Typically with three to three and a half globular chambers in the final whorl, highly inflated with broadly rounded periphery in adults, aperture typically a high rimmed arch, surface usually with rounded tubercles and a smooth cortex.
Comparison: Distinguished in populations from G. puncticulata by having fewer chambers in the final whorl, by the more inflated rounded shape and smoother surfaces with a larger, higher aperture.
Distribution: Upper Opoitian to Recent.
Comment: Some populations referred to G. inflata in the late Pliocene have three and a half to four chambered, often rather angular, hispid juveniles of G. inflata triangula Thyer which are easily confused with G. crassaformis except for their arched apertures. Appears first in Opoitian as three and a half chambered individuals in four chambered populations of G. puncticulata, increasing and becoming equally represented by about upper Opoitian.
